Canada believes firmly that diversity and inclusion make us richer and stronger as a people and as a country. Canada has come to learn that diversity is a source of creativity, resilience, and strength. Inclusion contributes to the realization of human rights, gender equality, sustainable development, peace, and prosperity.
Fostering and supporting diversity is not always easy, however, and today’s policies are a deliberate shift from the past. But these changes are rooted in our belief that those who face discrimination, based on their identities, are denied their inherent dignity and human rights and are prevented from reaching their full potential. Building greater inclusion is challenging. It requires new solutions. No one has all the answers. There is no perfect model to copy. Canada is keen to learn from others and willing to collaborate with those in all regions who are working to promote inclusion and respect for diversity.
