But for me he was and still is the essence of the Stones, and this essence has always attracted me, and I try to use it in what I do. The most important thing for me is the essence. My photo is the same. Simple, no novelty, no extreme effects – but essential”. This is how Chris Niedenthal, whose exhibition we will have a chance to attend during this year’s Campus, says about his work.

“It’s not talked about”. Will women’s hell end?discussion panel

www.OTymSieNieMowi.pl is a civic initiative to create a documentary film about the history of women who experienced pregnancy in the event of severe and irreversible fetal defects, and who were deprived of the possibility of choosing according to their will by a political decision. It was a matter of time when the first Polish woman would die because of such a cruel and inhumane law. The #OTSNM film gave voice to people with medical knowledge, gynecologists, psychiatrists, and above all women who were deprived of the right to choose. We will talk about women’s hell in Poland with the creators of the film “It’s not talked about”. IMPORTANT! Before participating in the discussion, we encourage you to watch the film, which is available for free on YouTube https://youtu.be/OXS9GmjljR4?t=1.

Since 2015, we have witnessed constant tension between the government and people of culture. Disorganizing the life of cultural institutions run by local governments, abandoning the project of introducing regulations covering artists with insurance and social benefits, fighting non-governmental cultural organizations whose activities are not in line with the government’s policy, destroying public media, and aggressive historical policy that replaces cultural policy. What should the Ministry of Culture do? What should the modern cultural policy of a large country in the centre of the European Union look like? What would be the relationship between cultural institutions, cultural organizations, and commercial culture? And what to do with the Church, which in recent years has received great funds for museums and cultural initiatives? These questions will contribute to the conversation about the need for a new opening in culture that will make it free, democratic, and open to experiment.

We look at the future with uncertainty, fear, frustration, sadness, but also hope because we know what the country we would like to live in should be like. When asked about the ideal Poland in the perspective of a decade, we answer that it should be safe, democratic, just, fair, law-abiding, modern, tolerant, ecological, and open. We understand that the condition for a better future is development based on increased expenditure on education and science as well as security. Civil society has an idea for Poland. We know what country we want to live in and how to fix it. What is more, citizens involved in the activities of non-governmental organizations know well what systemically helps them and what hinders them in their daily activities for women’s rights, refugees rights, good law, improving education, the rule of law, climate law, culture, public media, or restoring self-governance. Let’s fix the state together!

We want to talk about European political integration in the 21st century. Is it inevitable for the EU to survive as a community? Is it even possible to manage climate, energy, migration, and new technologies without a strong Europe? What is the modern meaning of sovereignty? What does the slogan about a strong Europe mean: strong European institutions or a new balance in relations between institutions and Member States, or maybe it’s about the way of voting? Or do we simply lack a larger budget to match the scale of the challenges of the 21st century? What is the importance of the rule of law for the EU that is turning into a community of “conditional solidarity”?

Why is animal welfare also human welfare?seminar

The welfare of animals is inextricably linked to the well-being of people and affects many aspects of social functioning. For example, respecting and caring for animals is a sign of our morality and compassion, animal health affects the quality and safety of the food we consume, and the presence and contact with animals has an undeniable positive impact on our mental health. All these aspects show that our relationship with animals has far-reaching consequences for our well-being. Taking action for animal welfare is both an investment in our common future and a testament to our care for the planet where we all live together.

Copyright is everywhere. It regulates not only the fact that the author receives remuneration from the publisher of their book, but also the rules on which the book can be borrowed from the library. It determines when social media linking is allowed and when not. It affects what can be done with a purchased paper book and what cannot be done with an e-book purchased online. Finally, it tries to answer the question of who owns the rights to the results of artificial intelligence. However, does the current shape of copyright law make sense? Does it really protect those it should? And finally, is it possible to design copyright in such a way that it serves the entire society?

Polish economy in the new world. What needs to be changed so that we could enter the path of dynamic development?discussion panel

The Polish economy faces many challenges related to, among others, high inflation, tax chaos, energy transformation, deglobalization, and shortening of supply chains. If we manage to meet these challenges, we have a chance for dynamic development. What needs to be done to make this happen? What economic reforms should be carried out first? What impact will the NRP funds have on the development of Poland? We will look for answers to these questions during the debate.

Transgenderism: harmful fad or generational change? Teenagers, whether in London, Utrecht, Warsaw or Jelenia Góra, reject the binary division of gender and sexuality assigned to it. They see more possibilities than their parents saw. The number of young transgender people is growing exponentially. Parents have raised a daughter, and she is a boy. Or vice versa. Or they are a non-binary person: neither fully boy nor fully girl. They can also be sometimes a boy, sometimes a girl, or even a person of no gender at all. What has changed in Europe and both Americas in big and small cities? Or has it always been like this, but only in the 21st century have we become open enough to talk about it out loud?

Young and older originators often face barriers that prevent the development of their projects. In addition, there are issues related to team management and crisis situations. How to go from idea to implementation? It will be a workshop about the challenges and crises that organizations encounter on their way and how to come out of them strengthened. Opening up to new countries is a great challenge for cohesion funds and a new distribution of funds. Will we be able to take care of everyone in the new, larger EU? Further integration of the community is also a great opportunity to reform the EU governance system. A new way of allocating commissioners, voting, and functioning of the European Parliament. Today it sounds unreal, but soon it may become a reality? Tightening European cooperation has many supporters and opponents who fight for the future shape of the EU. Which way will the EU finally go?

As the result of the unjustified Russian invasion against Ukraine, CEE became one of key centres of attention of the international community. Growing military spending, impact on the security of the whole NATO, and the rising ability to vocalise its own interest in regard to Russia, shaped internationally the image of the region since the beginning of 2022. At the same time, we are still facing internal challenges to our democracies and tense relations with key neighbours. Is CEE capable of using this security momentum to shape the long-term impact on the future of the transatlantic relations? The project “YOUNG HEADS. Openly about mental health” was created to hear the voice of our children. So that they can express themselves: what they think about themselves, what they have the biggest problems with, and above all, where they look for support. The mental health of young people is alarming. The UNAWEZA Foundation decided to act. We will not cause Poland to suddenly have more specialists and wards of child psychiatry. What we can realistically do now is to create a rapid response system in the event of a mental crisis in a child and prevention. If we can train in first aid for accident victims, we can also implement “psychological first aid” into our everyday life and educational programmes. A team of experienced experts is currently working on it. The “YOUNG HEADS. Openly about mental health”report is the starting point of their work.

Democracy starts with your street, neighbourhood, village or town. Did you know that in many municipalities it is enough to collect only 100 signatures for local councillors to vote on your idea? As part of the workshop by LubBezpośrednio.pl – Direct Democracy Institute, we will present the legal framework and advice related to the introduction of bottom-up change in your local government: commune, city, district, or voivodeship. In the interactive part, in groups, we will ask you to prepare your own ideas for a local referendum or a project implemented by means of a resolution-making initiative of residents.

An important challenge facing our economy, which will affect the current generation of the young, and even those who are not born yet, with the greatest force is the demographic crisis. Demographic trends indicate that on average every 3 minutes the working age population will decrease by 1 person, every week by over 3,000, every month by almost 15,000, and every year by almost 170,000 people. And so it will continue for several decades. At the same time, the number of economically inactive people and people of retirement age will increase. What does this mean for the young generation? For the economy? For the pension system? Do we have to be passive about it? Can we counteract this somehow?

With the digital transformation of the economy and society, our finances are also changing. Online accounts have been followed by crypto-assets, valuable digital artefacts in gaming, platform work, NFT, and decentralized finance. There are more “revolutions” on the horizon: fully digital currencies, as well as bold visions of technological revolutions, such as the next instalments of VR and AR, or metaverse. How do these innovations relate to macrotrends in the global economy? Do new products and services allow young generations to escape from problems such as skyrocketing housing prices, growing stratification, or the effects of the climate crisis? How does this affect our rights, including the right to privacy? And is it possible to distinguish genuine innovation from scam?

At the same time, liberalism, in which individual freedom is paramount, is again under strong attack and must function in the realities of new crises and the rising tide of populism and authoritarianism. What is the image of liberalism today? Why and how to convince people to support liberalism today? Can liberal ideas help in responding to the most important challenges?

Lack of self-esteem, depression, and suicide attempts are a real plague among young Poles. The alarming scale of the mental health crisis is shown by subsequent social studies. However, these facts cannot obscure the phenomenon of therapeutic culture described by specialists and practitioners. Does therapy replace education for us today? Does it satisfy spiritual needs? And especially its online substitutes, do they make it easier to throw off our shoulders personal responsibility for our own lives?

Or is it so that it is impossible to carry out enlargement without deepening? Discussions surrounding reproductive rights are often contentious, but it is important to remember that behind each decision is a personal story. The Choice is a virtual reality (VR) experience that provides a new perspective on the complex and emotional nature of one woman’s choice. In this presentation, Dr. Joanne Popinska (Director), together with Producer Tom C. Hall, will discuss the process of creating this impactful piece. The Choice is an interactive VR series that features women sharing their stories of choosing to have an abortion, often for the first time. Through delicate animation and powerful first-person testimonials, viewers can see the complex emotions and inner dialogues that led to these decisions. By creating an intimate and personal encounter between viewers and storytellers, The Choice offers a new approach to discussing abortion that shifts attitudes and behaviours.

The guest of the meeting will be this year’s literary debut Przemysław Kowalewski. His crime novel “Kozioł” has been conquering the bestseller lists for two months. The book was recognized by Jarosław Molenda as “The best crime debut of the year”. Many reviewers pointed to the fact that Kowalewski uses a subliminal message in his novel, identifying the current authorities with the communist regime of the time. The author returns to 1952 and the case of “The Butcher from Niebuszewo”. In his novel, he paints a picture of destroyed Szczecin in the arms of demoralized communist authorities. During the meeting entitled “Butcher from Szczecin. Can a retro crime story be sexy?” we will try to answer the question of whether novels set several decades ago can appeal to the young generation.

              Transmission:

Since 1989, Poland’s development has been one of the most dynamic in the world, and transformation held up as an example. The economic picture of Poland almost 20 years after joining the EU shows that the main growth factors from the previous years have been exhausted, and the irresponsible policy of governments after 2015 led to a decrease in investments, waste of public money, and loss of confidence in financial markets. The fundamental threat to the continuation of above-average economic growth is the destruction of state institutions and the rule of law, the politicization of the economy, the decline in investment attractiveness, and the growing risk of chronic instability of public finances. We will discuss the future of the Polish economy. What challenges will successive governments face? What policy should be pursued to restore the competitiveness of the economy? How to make it resistant to subsequent crises? What are the priorities for the first 100 days of the new government?

The wave of populism, which we observe both among the young and the mature, has significantly affected the quality of democracy. Many societies are experiencing a significant crisis of liberal democracy and its fundamental values. Populist governments have a huge impact on the economic, social, and ecological condition of countries. The most sensitive point is the rule of law and civil rights. In the discussion, we will focus on key issues related to the assessment of the state of civil rights and freedoms in Poland in 2023. Where are we now? Where are we going?

School of life. Is the education system able to prepare young people for the challenges of the 21st century?discussion panel

The education system is the basis for building a conscious, responsible, and future-ready society. Education in Poland is still based on traditional teaching methods, a lot of homework, exams and grades that often do not reflect the actual state of knowledge and skills. In addition, the subjects taught in schools cease to be a sufficient response to changes in the field of e.g. new technologies. Is the current system able to prepare the young generation for the challenges of the 21st century? We will answer this question during Hyde Park, which will take place in the following form: each of the speakers will give a 5-minute presentation, and then a discussion will be opened in which participants will be able to both ask questions in the form of Q&A and express their own position.

The subject matter of the panel is to show philosophy as a fundamental element constituting and inspiring thinking of both individuals and generations. Piotr Pronobis, co-founder of the Varsophie group, together with invited guests: Professor Tadeusz Gadacz from Collegium Civitas and Professor Barbara Fatyga from the University of Warsaw will talk about philosophy as an opportunity to find yourself, the depth of your personality, values, and humanism. The speakers will look at philosophy in the context of a counterweight to modern elements that corrode thinking, and will compare academic philosophy to “street philosophy”, wondering why philosophy as such is not popular and why it should be. Finally, they will consider the role of philosophy in education, in shaping human behaviour, and finally in anticipating the changes taking place in society and humanity.

During the panel, we will consider whether and how to talk about climate change and the related effects: in real life, on social networks, at school or in the parish. The next wave of artificial intelligence development brings new fears and questions, often mystified. So let’s ask some fundamental questions. Are we really threatened with technological unemployment now and in the next 15-20 years? In what types of jobs will robots and intangible AI characters (invisible algorithms) replace us in the workplace, and in which will humans continue to have an advantage in performing tasks? The word “depression” is inflected in all cases, but we still do not know how to use this term correctly in the public opinion. Depressive state, depression, depressive mood, adaptive disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders or addictions (be it behavioral or psychoactive substances) are still confused. Whether it is possible to talk about depression without taboos, whether it is possible to joke, whether one must always be serious when talking about mental health, what is the “contemporary depression of young Poles” will be discussed by experts, in whose words, as in a mirror, everyone will find something about themselves. Together, we will try to break patterns and tear down taboo walls around the topic of depression and other mood disorders. Because in the case of mental disorders, the key question is “when” they will affect me, not “whether they will affect me”.

Is being an European an integral part of our identity? The purpose of the meeting is to show similarities and differences in the perception of the European Union by young Europeans. Do those raised in Central and Eastern Europe perceive the Union differently than their peers from the western part of the continent? What opportunities for development await the young within the EU? What is the future of youth in Europe? And what are the most important challenges facing the EU for young people?

Workshop about cosmos and haven! In recent years, the government has boasted of a budget surplus many times. We have been flooded with slogans, such as “Balanced budget”, “National budget without deficit”, “Finally balanced financial plan”. Are these really the case? During the workshop, we want to present what real public finance is and what tricks the government uses to confuse the citizen. We will show the cosmic intransparency of the budget. We will tell you what the “Prime Minister’s spending haven” is. Transparent public finances are the basis of democracy.

Like never before, Poland needs a new social contract: clear systemic rules of the game to which citizens representing the main political currents will agree. In the book “Umówmy się na Polskę” [Let’s make a deal on Poland], a group of 28 experts expressing views from the left and liberals to the conservative right presents a proposal for democratic rules for the functioning of the state formulated in a transparent and understandable way. Helena Chmielewska-Szlajfer, Jakub Drożdż, Maciej Kisilowski, and Anna Wojciuk will introduce and develop the theses contained in the book.

Recent years have been a period of constant crisis in relations between the governments of Poland and Israel, and hostility of the authorities towards historians of the Holocaust in Poland. All this together contributes to the deterioration of the image of Poland’s attitude towards Jews also among the Jewish diaspora in the world. Polish-Jewish relations are too important to be left to politicians. Therefore, in a Polish-Israeli group, we will talk about how to repair these relations from the perspective of a citizen, and what repair tasks could be undertaken by politicians. Forum for Dialogue is the partner of the seminar. Event will be held in English.

Children and youth make up 20% of Polish society, and yet in many areas they are still denied their rights and subjectivity. Radicalization leading to violence, disinformation, hate speech, lack of trust, but also the disturbing approach of state institutions, organizations, and enterprises are the phenomena visible in the monitoring of the rights and subjectivity of children and youth in the information and digital environment. Is clean tap water given to us once and for all?seminar

Tap water is an everyday thing for us, obvious and available without restrictions. But global challenges (climate change, population growth, environmental pollution) and destructive human activities (regulating rivers, clearing forests, draining wetlands) call into question the future availability of clean water. Why are we running out of water and why is our country becoming like a desert? Should our rivers be given legal personality? The uncertainty of the future of water makes it necessary to take action to protect it and use it rationally. Bearing in mind that water is not only a guarantee of our existence and a strategic resource, but also a place where billions of creatures live, and their well-being is closely related to ours, we will look for innovative solutions for sustainable water management.

Since 2015, Poland has been sick and consumed by evil. Access to information is difficult, and numerous scandals and favouritism are ruining the state of public finances. Without knowing the sources of the infection, without knowing how it spreads, we will never be able to cure it. During the seminar, the greatest scams of the United Right will be presented, including the last attack on the State Forests. Together, we will consider how to build an honest state and protect it from abuses and nepotistic attempts by the rulers. We do not offer easy recipes. We only help to understand how it happened that a group of cynical people without scruples took away the sense of agency of most of their compatriots, at the same time making money for themselves and their political kinsmen. We will consider why the recently friendly state has become an enemy of its own citizens in just a few years.

We will also look at the changes that have taken place in the process and methodology of conducting polls over the years, and we will consider how this affects their credibility. We will also take a behind-the-scenes look at the research that evokes the greatest emotions and is observed with bated breath by both politicians and voters, i.e. exit polls.

Research shows that talking about money is the hardest. Women are embarrassed to talk about money even at work. We don’t know how to negotiate, for example, a raise or salary. As a result, Polish women still earn about 20% less than men (Central Statistical Office data, 2018). In senior positions, this difference increases to 33%. Money gives stability, security, freedom, and independence, and yet it is still a taboo topic and we still talk about it reluctantly, with shame. Women who care for them are described by many as greedy materialists who put money above all values. But money is necessary for everyone to live and develop. To run a home, raise children, take care of health. They help to help others. They are due for effort and dedication. For learning, energy, and commitment. For talent and our time.

Numbers have great power. Sometimes one number can mean more than a thousand words. Skilfully presented numbers and data can help us understand the surrounding reality. They can also be used to manipulate facts to deliberately mislead others. In times filled with fake news, where the boundaries between fact and opinion, truth and falsehood, information and misinformation are blurred, developing the ability to look critically, ask questions, and draw objective conclusions based on numerical data becomes one of the key competences. DURING THE WORKSHOP, YOU WILL LEARN HOW: - to skillfully interpret numerical data, - data and facts are manipulated in public space, - to spot numerical manipulations and manipulations in polls, - to use numbers and data to avoid fake news.

According to UNESCO, “for all the countries where girls’ education must be the top priority, there are others where boys’ needs should be those on the agenda in policy debates”. These gender gaps are rarely reflected in gender equality policies or electoral programmes and campaigns. However, they have a transformative impact on political competition, particularly in the youngest generations. In the workshop, we will see how these gender gaps vary across countries and how they are (not) reflected in public policies. We will discuss their causes and consequences, and try to come up with policy proposals to tackle them.

The only certainty in the modern world is change. Expository methods discourage children and youth from exploring the world creatively, experiencing creatively, cooperating, and being innovative. Therefore, new methods of working with children and youth should be sought, which will support their holistic development and the development of the competences of the future. During the workshop, the context and needs of using STEAM in education will be presented. Examples of STEAM projects and the benefits of their use will be discussed. Workshop participants will learn the tools to design and implement a STEAM lesson, taking into account all educational blocks in the STEAM model. The workshop focuses on gaining the competencies of the future by learning about the possibilities of working with the iPad and a suite of creative applications.

Some time has passed since the local governments in Poland celebrated its 30th birthday. This is a good opportunity for us to think together about their condition and how they affect our lives. Were the assumptions of the reform fulfilled, or did it go in a completely different direction? The development over the years has been seen not only by the inhabitants, but also by the authorities of communes, counties, and voivodeships. What does the path of local government look like through the eyes of people who could manage it? About the experiences, the challenges they have faced, and most importantly, what conclusions they draw for the future.

You can be whoever you want, all you have to do is use the right tools. How much does the ideal world shown in social media have in common with fake news and disinformation used for propaganda purposes? Is there a limit to creating an image on the Internet? Can innocent playing with filters pose a real threat? We will answer these questions during Hyde Park, which will take place in the following form: each of the speakers will give a 5-minute presentation, and then a discussion will be opened in which participants will be able to both ask questions in the form of Q&A and express their own position.

Police, arrest, custody. Scenes previously associated with the detention of wanted criminals have recently (too) often happened to people who, despite pressure, want to remain independent of those in power. One of the groups on which the authorities have particularly focused their activities are entrepreneurs. Thanks to their work, they do not rely on party lines, which in the eyes of some appears to be a particular threat. What is the price of freedom? Increasingly, it is no longer just a theoretical conversation, but a situation that each of us can experience in real life. We will talk about what the moment when the state enters our lives with a bang looks like with people who have experienced such situations and those who help the detained in such situations.

It all started with Radek Łukasiewicz, Jarek Ważny, and Janusz Zdunek, who decided to face the subject of passing, death, and grief. Even though these elements are inevitable and part of everyday life, they are a cultural taboo in our country. The musicians have created unusual compositions that will help the listener to look at the final matters from a different perspective and thus help them tame difficult experiences. The materials for album are the result of many hours of conversations and meetings with enthusiasts of the subject from all over the country. The songs were recorded with vocalists practicing different styles on a daily basis, whose voice timbre and emotionality will allow you to find yourself in this matter.

Will the challenges remain the same or will we be in a completely different place? Let’s talk about the future of local governments.

Loneliness is one of the greatest challenges of the next decades. It affects all social groups, especially the youngest generation and people belonging to minority groups. Loneliness has its victims and huge costs. As technology advances, the problem will only get worse. The youngest generation lives online, among bots and avatars, entering into many quick interactions and being unable to create valuable relationships. Measures against the “loneliness epidemic” must be comprehensive. These should not only be investments in psychological and psychiatric help, increased care for the oldest or most economically excluded citizens. These should also include activities such as better urban development planning or building a more inclusive education system.

There is a common assumption that the stability of the Taiwan Strait is of paramount interest to the United States in order to prevent the PRC from establishing regional hegemony in East Asia and significantly curtailing the United States’ ability to underwrite its security guarantees in the region. This panel explores the significance of a democratic and free Taiwan to Central and Eastern Europe, and why a robust response to the PRC’s growing global influence and aggressive behaviour is not merely driven by US interests but because it has significant consequences and implications for CEE.

In vitro. Does it divide or unite? It arouses emotions and causes controversy among some politicians. The vast majority of society considers IVF a breakthrough solution for couples with fertility problems who dream of parenthood. Some express their doubts, citing ethical or religious aspects or the consequences for children born thanks to this method. Unfortunately, these doubts often give rise to hate speech, which only increases social divisions and increases prejudice. Responsibility for combating it rests with each of us, both individuals and institutions. How to deal with it? How do you turn it into something constructive? You will learn the answers to these and many other questions during the debate with people who have a lot to say about hate and IVF.

The world as we know it is ending, but there is no language to describe this process and imagine what awaits us in the future. As a result, we use descriptions that have become obsolete. One of the reasons is the deepening political polarization, the effects of which penetrate into other spheres of life. They share environments. However, the roots of this crisis lie deeper. We live in conditions of a huge oversupply of content. We entrusted social media algorithms with selecting them and deciding whom they will reach. It was not a successful experiment, and we are preparing for the next one; most of the stories, melodies, and images that reach us will be produced by inhuman intelligence. Meanwhile, we need imagination, ideas, and suggestions for describing the world. So what are the challenges of the crisis of intellectual debate? The discussion with people nominated for the Batory Foundation’s Marcin Król Award for the best book in history of ideas and research on the future.

These are just selected fake news that have been heating up public opinion for some time. Every day we are simply flooded with messages, scientists have measured that the average person living today processes as much as 74 GB of information per day. Just 500 years ago, an educated person received so much information throughout his life, in the form of books and stories. Is our brain properly prepared to process this huge amount of data properly? Can we distinguish facts from opinions? Are we able to extract key information? Fake news spreads 6 times faster than regular news! It makes you think. Despite the fact that we live in the 21st century and have been a member state of the European Union for almost 20 years, 20% of towns in Poland are not accessible by public transport. The next 20% have it only to a minimal extent. Estimates show that several million Poles are faced with communication exclusion. It is inextricably linked to social exclusion, a sense of isolation, and unequal access to information and services. The scale of the problem and possible solutions will be outlined by experts who may have more experience with communication exclusion than they would like. :)

Employee rights are directly regulated in human rights acts, and more specifically, they belong to the second generation of human rights. Such rights include the right to work, paid leave, or fair remuneration. Unfortunately, low standards of care for ensuring the rights of employees, companies ignoring the negative impact on the social environment, and finally, open violation of human rights (e.g. exploitation of slave labour, etc.) obviously allow enterprises to reduce the costs of running business. We cannot allow it.

Poland has been struggling with the ongoing demographic crisis for a long time. The decline in the birth rate is only the tip of the iceberg, the aging problem. This is a challenge for the economy and the entire system of public services. How to ensure the development of each voivodeship in these difficult conditions so that no one is left behind?

For cinematography, the pandemic was like the explosion of an atomic bomb. Nothing will ever be the same. After the closure of cinemas and many months of downtime, the industry is gradually rebuilding its position. Cinema people are trying to find themselves in the new reality, stuck between partisan state funding and commercial streaming platforms that do not pay royalties. Does contemporary cinematography still have a chance to play such a role as it did during the fall of communism, when filmmakers ruled souls? Where is Polish cinema heading at this breakthrough moment?

We will also talk about what else a man can find in the mountains, what a climate catastrophe means for the mountains and whether it is easy to be a woman in the Himalayas.

The main sources of information on youth policy are social media and Internet portals. The low level of public debate, the polarization of society, and the lack of trust in politicians make young people afraid of getting involved in Polish politics. What can be done to stop politics from having negative connotations? Is there a place for civic education in the current curriculum? We will answer these questions during Hyde Park, which will take place in the following form: each of the speakers will give a 5-minute presentation, and then a discussion will be opened in which participants will be able to both ask questions in the form of Q&A and express their own position.

                                    By the University Swimming Pool

Planting trees is more than a symbolic gesture of caring for the Earth. The world is losing its green cover at an alarming rate, with an estimated 15 billion trees being cut down each year. In order to leave the next generations with the best possible living conditions, we plan to plant a symbolic 150 trees during Campus – the Future of Poland. Choosing the seedlings, we will take into account the biodiversity of species as this approach goes beyond mere afforestation; it aims to restore the complexity and richness of natural ecosystems, ensuring that tree planting initiatives contribute positively to both protecting the environment and enhancing biodiversity. Adopting a biodiversity-based approach is not just a matter of environmental responsibility, it is a strategic investment in the long-term health and stability of our planet.

The attack on the rule of law would not be possible without the involvement of lawyers. The authority destroying the legal system in force needs professionals who will both prepare and enforce a political revolution. Such specialists are also used by the regime of Jarosław Kaczyński. There are known examples of judges, prosecutors, advocates, and legal advisers who have cooperated with the authorities and taken part in the destruction of the Polish rule of law. How should the people who are the “cogs” of the machine that destroys the rule of law be held accountable? Can participation in the destruction of the rule of law be reduced to the sphere of acting in accordance with one’s own political views? Can a lawyer who has not committed a crime, but who participated in the destruction of the rule of law, feel like they won’t get punished? We will look for answers to these and other questions during this panel.

To what extent are we able to distinguish truth from fiction today? What awaits us next due to the huge technological progress? In an interdisciplinary group, we will discuss issues such as deepfake, disinformation, and illusions created thanks to immersive technologies. The panel will also be an opportunity to engage in an important discussion on the role of media education and critical thinking in navigating the increasingly complex digital landscape. In addition, we will look at how our interaction with the virtual world affects our psyche and social relationships. The discussion will also include ethical and legal issues.

During the workshop, you will learn what NEB and foresight are, you will learn how to design solutions in a more sustainable way using the principles of circularity and co-design. You will also learn how to create your own project that will help change your environment for the better. Wake up your creativity and join us on a journey to a sustainable future! See you!

If so, we invite you to the interactive SOS for Education workshop, during which you will be able to share suggestions on the protection of students’ rights, assessment and examinations, relations between teaching staff and students, effective psychological support and other pressing education related problems. It will be an important voice in the debate on the future of Polish education, which has been conducted for over two years by the SOS for Education coalition with the participation of pro-democratic political groups, local governments, and school communities.

Discovering the truth about the complicated fate of the family and their own origins will be the subject of a personal and moving conversation between Agata Tuszyńska and Jarosław Kurski. The author, among others “Czarna torebka” [Black Purse] found out about her Jewish roots when she turned eighteen. As a woman on the verge of adulthood, she had to put her life in order from scratch. Jarosław Kurski in his biographical book “Dziady i dybuki” shows the story of finding the truth about family secrets. The process of learning about one’s roots, hidden by ancestors, was long and complicated. Can the titular Dziady (ghosts of Polish ancestors) and dybbuks (ghosts of Jewish ancestors) be treated on an equal footing?

We will answer these questions together during this interactive workshop, where you will get to know some of the results of the 5th edition of the report “Technology in the service of society”.

What kind of support do young people expect in this process? How can technology, including AI, help solve the challenges faced by a person making these choices for the first time in their lives right now? How will the process of searching, renting, buying, and selling real estate change soon thanks to new technologies? What issues require non-technological solutions?

In the face of climate and ecological changes, the green transformation has become the leitmotif of today’s times. On the one hand, we see great opportunities: developing renewable energy sources, creating green jobs, improving the quality of life and protecting our planet for future generations. On the other hand, however, the green transformation is associated with challenges such as the restructuring of traditional industries, investments in new technologies, and changes in the way of life. During this seminar, we will discuss the benefits and risks of the green transition. Are we ready for the changes and what impact will they have on our economy, society, and environment? Can the green transformation be an opportunity for sustainable development and fighting climate challenges?

In recent times, control of public disclosure of information has become more and more evident, reaching alarming levels. There is no such thing as freedom of thought and belief. The authorities strive to increase control over institutions related to culture by deciding, among others, on management positions. The authorities who have occupied them so far are dismissed overnight, which they often learn from media reports. According to the imagination of the state authorities, the message is to be in line with their preferences and glorify their actions. Is it still possible to make culture independent?

Radicalization is a complex process where a person or group of people begins to adopt an extreme, violent ideology or belief. It is a rejection of the status quo accepted by the general public and negation of basic democratic values, as well as a growing tendency to use violence to achieve ideological goals. The final stage of radicalization can be an act of violence or even terrorism. Instead of “managing fear”, we need to consider how to reduce its level in order to effectively counter polarization, xenophobia, and radicalization leading to extremism. These actions should be directed at those who “only” are afraid, as well as at those who “already” hate. In order to effectively contain threats, the rule of law must be strengthened and threats to it identified. It is necessary to create a network of experts and a system of direct response to crises, as well as to develop good practices.

The modern world is a place where information bubbles, polarization and social differentiation are commonplace. A place where individuals focus primarily on achieving their own goals. In such a reality, how to talk about what is important to us, without forgetting about the search for a mutual understanding? How to express yourself without hurting others? Is there a difference between an individual and a group understanding? And finally, what are the possibilities and limits of communication? Our meeting will take place in the formula of a seminar, where not only the panellists, but also – or actually mainly – the audience has a voice. We want to know your experience and perspective on the subject of communication. We want to talk about the areas that are important to you, that challenge you. The panel will end with a moment of reflection on what each of us can do to give the world a chance for a better communication.

The aim of the workshop is to construct positive scenarios for the development of Poland until 2033, in which artificial intelligence will play an important role. Workshop participants, working in teams, will create visions of the future of our country in one of five areas: social, environmental, transport, cultural, and educational. Workshop facilitators will help participants incorporate current technological solutions and societal challenges into their scenarios. An important element of the workshop will be to draw attention to the issues of using artificial intelligence in the area of supporting equality and intergenerational dialogue.

Vigilance – this is the key word in the context of the upcoming challenges related to tools that use artificial intelligence. There are many unknowns about the future, but during the workshop we will try to argue that lack of certainty does not have to mean that we are powerless. We will outline possible scenarios for the development of new technologies as well as areas where we should stay vigilant and put pressure on large entities – corporations and states. In particular, we will focus on norms encoded in databases that serve to train Large Linguistic Models, image generators, and interpreters. Artificial intelligence often pictured as a threat only, can also be deployed to create tools supporting activists’ work, as well as macro processes to democratize social life.

On July 11, 2021, Cubans took to the streets en masse to protest. They had had enough of progressive impoverishment. The protesters shouted the slogan “Patria y Vida” (Fatherland and life), which was their response to Fidel Castro's famous cry “Patria o Muerte” (Fatherland or death). Cubans that day chose life, a life without fear, which they have lived for the last 62 years. For the first time, apart from bread, the nation demanded freedom and the end of the regime. We want to talk about contemporary art in Cuba, which has become one of the most effective ways to show how human rights are violated on the island, and how independent Cuban artists have become the face of civic engagement and protagonists of changes towards democracy.

The new financial perspective from European funds is just starting. For natural persons who do not run a business, it is another opportunity to look for a way of professional development. Maybe you have an idea for your own company? Or maybe you need to improve your own skills/competences and thanks to courses, trainings or postgraduate studies, you will open the way to your dream job? If any of the topics interest you, I invite you to a meeting. I will tell you all about the topic and explain how all of this works. It will be clear, specific and, I hope, fruitful for everyone. See you.

“Nasłuch” is a weekly podcast in which Polityka Insight analysts discuss the Polish political scene. We follow and comment on current events, but we are also looking for a broader perspective, medium- and long-term trends and conditions that shape Polish public space. In addition to podcasts, we organize meetings with listeners under the #StudioNasłuch brand and we are happy to talk about what makes us sad and what makes us happy in politics. We like to consider whether elections will be brought forward, whether polarization ends, and whether the united right will disintegrate and the divided opposition will unite. In other words, in our broadcast we talk about Polish politics, its party games, corridor intrigues, heroes of collective imagination, and stars of one season.
